The Greytown Community Sport & Leisure Society was formed in 2003 after a group of keen Greytown residents were concerned enough to form a sport management committee to ensure that key issues affecting the growth and development of sport and leisure clubs were been addressed.
Fast forward fifteen years and the Society has a membership of fifteen sports and leisure groups that benefit from the Society’s mission to “Support community-wide participation in sporting, leisure and recreational activities”. With a Volunteer Board of 3 Independent members, 1 school representative, 4 sporting representatives and a paid administrator we support a combined membership of over 1100 and with the increasing population in the Wairarapa, demand for quality sport and leisure experiences will continue.
With sustainability being a key term around the future of sporting clubs, facilities and sporting experiences on offer, it is no surprise that we have a need for major supporters and funders like yourselves that ensure our existence. The Society acknowledges the contributions received from Trust House, Greytown Trust Lands Trust and the continued support it receives from South Wairarapa District Council and Sport Wellington- Wairarapa.
A continued focus for 2019 will be supporting the volunteers who are the backbone of our sporting and leisure groups. With updated service level agreements and financial reporting packages provided to club treasurers, the Society is helping to make the committee volunteer’s job a little easier with more time to share the love of their sport or activity with the wider community.
