Hospice Wairarapa is extremely grateful to Trust House for the generous grant to contribute towards the building extension of the Hospice base Te Kowhai in Renall Street. Our community Hospice provides free support and equipment to those on a palliative journey, supporting the patient and caregiver to ‘Help make every day count’ and then supporting the family in bereavement.
Hospice does not employ medical staff, but works closely with the Wairarapa DHB Palliative nurses who are based in our Hospice building. Without the help of the community in both financial terms, donation of goods to our Hospice Shop and weekly garage sale, as volunteers and supporters of our fundraising events, we simply could not provide our psychosocial services free of charge to those with any kind of terminal illness, not just cancer.
The number of people using our services is rising steadily, and this much appreciated grant will allow us to extend our building to develop more services and bring services back into Te Kowhai that currently have to take place off site. We are very excited about the developments this Trust House grant will allow and cannot thank the Trust House Board enough!
