Project Prima Volta (PPV)

Project Prima Volta (PPV) is a nationally recognised singing programme that enables young people to harness the power of their own voice.

For nearly a decade, the PPV model has demonstrated the potential of music as a tool for wellbeing, bringing social outcomes like improved mental health, advancement in tertiary education and increased earning capacity for young people, many of whom come from vulnerable households.

PPV’s parent organisation The Prima Volta Charitable Trust provides subsidised music education and performance opportunities to over 250 tamariki and rangatahi aged 5 to 25 each year. Through targeted outreach, tuakana-teina (peer to peer) mentorship and high stakes performance opportunities, students develop confidence, creativity, and resilience that are carried into adulthood.

Funding from Trust House supports the ongoing operational costs associated with their flagship programme for teens (PPV Senior), as well as PPV Junior, introduced in 2020 to engage primary to intermediate level students. Funding covers 1:1 singing lessons, educational resources, transportation support, catering, coaching from industry professionals and performance opportunities across New Zealand. This year, students were able to showcase their skills at widely attended events like FAWC, Hawke’s Bay Orchestra’s Carols by Candlelight Concert and Napier’s annual Botanic Beats concert.
