New at the Copthorne, Solway Park, Wairarapa
We are excited to announce that Alex Sorensen has joined the Copthorne as our new Executive Chef, responsible for The Grill restaurant and bar and our conference and event facilities!
Alex is originally from the Wellington region, growing up in Tawa. He always enjoyed his cooking classes at school, and after graduating started working in professional kitchens and found his passion. After a short stint in Melbourne, Alex moved to the Wairarapa with his partner Holly over six years ago.
Alex’s approach to food is to provide simple, excellent food that isn’t pretentious. His favourite dish to cook is something as simple as spaghetti bolognaise. “One of my favourite chefs was Anthony Bourdain. He was down to earth, real and didn’t really care what people thought. Was just about the simple food people loved from around the world,” shares Alex.
Him and his partner now have a two year old daughter and live in Carterton. They love the Wairarapa for its peacefulness, wide roads, and the convenience of being close to the city with a much more relaxed lifestyle. When not in the kitchen at the Copthorne Solway Park, Alex is out with his family going for adventures in the park, or heading out for brunch.
Alex is committed to ensuring guests have a great time when they join us; “I really want guests to come The Grill for a night out and to have a great experience. To have a simple, but tasty meal that is prepared with the best ingredients and served with care.”
As the largest conference centre in the Wairarapa, the Copthorne Solway Park is one of the busiest conference and event venues this side of the hill. “I’m excited to create new conference menus that fit with the changing conference environment. Our new menu will be dynamic to fit the hybrid meeting model, so our guests can focus on their special event or business and we can take care of the food, “shares Alex.
We hope you will join us soon to taste some of Alex’s amazing food!
