English Language Partners Porirua teaches English language and provides social support to adults of refugee and migrant background. Our mission is to facilitate learning of the language that is fundamental to successful social, educational and employment resettlement in NZ. This then ensures that the Porirua community benefits from the skills, knowledge, experience and connections that our clients bring with them.
To do this we are running seven different programme types, made up of 32 classes and one to one volunteer home tutoring. Our classes, which provide proven successful pathways to employment or further study, provide well qualified teachers of English as a second language. All curriculum and lessons are developed by our team to ensure that life in the Kiwi context is embedded within the English language learning. We also run training twice a year, for people who wish to volunteer a couple of hours per week of their time to tutor our clients on a one to one basis. The volunteers, once trained, are matched and continually provided with support and further professional development.
Fantastically, Trust House has supported us with the coordination costs of our programmes, one of our largest tasks, which ensures our clients are provided with suitable learning pathways and appropriate classes. The support from Trust House ensures that we can carry out this work sufficiently as we grow in response to the diverse needs of our growing community. All of us, the team and students alike, are extremely grateful for this support from Trust House.
