The South Wairarapa Pipe Band
The South Wairarapa Pipe Band has a compelling history that reflects the cultural richness of its region. Established in 1965 by a group of passionate individuals with a love for Scottish bagpipe music, the band quickly gained momentum within the local community.
Throughout the years, the South Wairarapa Pipe Band participated in various regional parades, and cultural events, consistently impressing people with their melodic tunes and marching. The band has played an essential role in representing South Wairarapa’s cultural heritage. They’ve performed at local festivals, charity events, and commemorative ceremonies, becoming an integral part of the community’s fabric. Their presence has fostered a sense of pride and unity among the residents. Following a hiatus, the current President Gordon McIntyre rejuvenated the band along with some key people including Donald and Gloria Wong, and Peter Doherty.
The band is focused on having fun and enjoying each other’s company. It is committed to ensuring all its members are safe and free to play what they can without any pressure. They are always welcoming new members, whether they be pipers or drummers, or people who wish to learn.
