New Zealand Pacific Studio  – Our Story

Kia ora! Our story is many people’s stories.

We have hosted hundreds of creative people from around Aotearoa — and the world — to Wairarapa.

NZ Pacific Studio provides writers & musicians & other artists with the time and space to focus on their work, and they in turn provide the community with lasting inspiration. Books. Films. Concerts. Theatre. Dance. Comedy. Acrobatics. Exhibitions. Site-specific installations. Workshops.  More.

Our award-winning residency programme was closed in 2021 and 2022 due to the pandemic and necessary restructuring, and the support from Trust House Foundation has helped bring us back to life!

The recent grant covers costs of overseeing much of our 2023 programme, specifically for two residencies: for a tangata whenua artist (Natasha ‘Tash’ Lampard) and a writer (Juliette MacIver).

Tash Lampard (Whakatōhea, Ngāpuhi, Pākehā) worked on her manuscript ‘Mother Tongue’, which deals with motherhood, loss, language, identity and her connection with Te Ao Māori.  Tash delivered a powerful public reading at Carterton Events Centre and engaged with Hurunui O Rangi Marae.

Juliette MacIver, from Porirua,  developed her 7-book series for young readers. She entertained more than 100 children at Greytown Library with her prize-winning stories and led a writing workshop for teens and adults.  Juliette also had a private meeting with veteran children’s writer, Joy Cowley.

Next up?  A Singer-Songwriter residency in August 2023.

We welcome kōrero with people who wish to support a residency, or host a creative professional at their Wairarapa home/property – it’s a joy!   Kia ora!
