House of Science Wairarapa Charitable Trust
House of Science Wairarapa is a community-led provider of science education services to primary and intermediate schools. It is our goal to ensure children from all backgrounds have consistent and well-resourced access to fun hands-on science learning. House of Science Wairarapa does this through providing science boxes of equipment and resources to local primary and intermediate schools that allow teachers to provide their students an immersive science experience. These science boxes cover a range of science topics that include topics like ‘Food For Thought’, ‘A Load of Rubbish’ and ‘Who’s Been There?’. Guided by their students’ interests, teachers order a bilingual kit from a continually evolving resource library, which is then delivered to their school by volunteers from the community. Included in every science kit at least five hands-on science activity and a detailed teacher manual that is mapped to the New Zealand curriculum.
The Trust House Foundation has supported the House of Science Wairarapa since our beginning in 2019. Fast forward a few years and House of Science Wairarapa now operates in 33 primary and intermediate schools and operates a library of 55 science kits on 35 different topics. This year, the support of the Trust House Foundation has allowed us to expand and House of Science Wairarapa now provides these science resources to schools in the Tararua District.
