Barnardos
Barnardos shapes brighter futures together with children and families in Aotearoa. We work with them to build nurturing relationships and resilient homes and communities, so that children reach their full potential. We’re there for the whole childhood journey, and beyond. Our mahi across social services, early learning services, and advocacy for children’s rights and wellbeing contributes to Barnardos’ vision of ‘an Aotearoa where every child shines bright’.
Trust House Foundation’s support has enabled us to continue running our Family Violence Programmes in the Hutt and Greater Wellington region, for children, young people, and adult women who are living with, or have experienced, family violence. The aim of these programmes is to ensure participants have a much better understanding about what happened in their family and, most importantly, how to keep themselves safe including having their own safety action plan.
Our work with family violence is so important because without help, children growing up with violence can have problems with controlling anger and emotions, mental health issues, abusive relationships, addiction to drugs and alcohol or suicidal thoughts. We want to ensure that children can have the best opportunity and support to feel and be safe.
